Hand-dipped in a molten azure glaze, this versatile tumbler can be used to home cacti or succulents, pencils and paintbrushes, cosmetics, or simply displayed as an object of beauty in its own right. We love to use it as part of our morning tea ritual, for a slow and intentional start to the day.
Each piece is handmade by Alice in her Brighton studio, and is therefore totally unique, showing the marks of her process. All of Alice's ceramics are made from pure porcelain, and are glazed by hand, using both pre-made and own recipe glazes. The outer is left unglazed for a beautifully tactile finish.
Alice says: "The technique I use is called slip casting. Commercially, this process is used, along with machines, to reproduce identical copies of one product, churning out hundreds of 'perfect' duplicates. There is something satisfying about imitating the machine - but with the ability to make every product individual. It might be a drunk mug, or a wonky vase, or the lines might not be as straight as they 'should be' but this is why I fell in love with handmade ceramics.
Simplicity and function are at the core of the work I make. I like to re-imagine classic shapes and divert them from their original purpose into a design piece. A camping mug can be transformed into an object of delicate craftsmanship, and it's natural 'mistakes' have been left on show to celebrate the process, just as I believe they should be."
Each tumbler has been created with care and intention, therefore we recommend hand washing to preserve these special pieces.
